Honors Recital Features Outstanding Frostburg State University Music Majors

Frostburg State University’s Department of Music, Theatre and Dance is proud to present its annual Honor’s Recital, featuring outstanding music majors who auditioned for and were selected to perform alongside distinguished faculty artists. The recital will take place on Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public and will also be live-streamed. Viewers can access the livestream by visiting www.frostburg.edu/concerts.
The student artists include Daniel Hicks and Gavin Baker (marimba duo); Caroline Carter (soprano); Daniel Coughenour (French horn); Jacob Deaver (percussion); Nicholas Mellen (guitar); and 'SimBa' Xiong (piano). The faculty artists are Dr. Brent Weber (saxophone) and Dr. Joseph Yungen (piano).
This special evening highlights the exceptional talent of FSU’s music students and faculty, celebrating their artistry and dedication through a rich and varied program spanning classical, contemporary and solo instrumental works.
The diverse range of works on the program, include: “Catching Shadows” by Ivan Trevino (Daniel Hicks and Gavin Baker, marimba); “Sonata for French Horn and Piano” (III. Lebhaft) by Paul Hindemith (Daniel Coughenour, French horn and Dr. Joseph Yungen, piano); “Prelude No. 1” by Heitor Villa-Lobos (Nicholas Mellen, guitar); “Preludes, Livre I” (I. Danseuses de Delphes) by Claude Debussy ('SimBa' Xiong, piano); “Prelude in G Major” by Clair Omar Musser (Jacob Deaver, percussion and Dr. Joseph Yungen, piano); “Eccomi in lieta vesta” from I Capuleti e I Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini (Caroline Carter, soprano and Dr. Joseph Yungen, piano); “Caprice No. 3” by David Salleras Quintana (Dr. Brent Weber, saxophone); and “The Garden of Eden” by William Bolcom (Dr. Joseph Yungen, piano).
