Agreement establishes a conditional admission pathway to WAUSM's MD Program for qualified FSU pre-med students

wausm and fsu logosWestern Atlantic University School of Medicine (WAUSM) and Frostburg State University (FSU) have entered into a new partnership creating a conditional admission pathway to WAUSM's Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program for qualified FSU students.

Under the agreement, students enrolled in FSU's Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences pre-med track who meet defined academic benchmarks, including GPA and MCAT requirements, and complete WAUSM's standard application process will be eligible for conditional admission. WAUSM will reserve a minimum of five admission slots each year specifically for FSU students, and any qualifying graduate who meets the GPA and MCAT benchmarks is guaranteed an interview.

The partnership marks FSU's first pathway agreement to a Doctor of Medicine program, building on the university's existing pipelines to osteopathic, dental, podiatric, pharmacy and physician assistant training.

Western Maryland faces some of the state's most significant physician shortages, particularly in primary care. For FSU students from the region, this pathway offers a chance not only to become physicians, but potentially to bring that training back home to communities that need it.

“This partnership reflects exactly the kind of student WAUSM wants to support someone who has shown they're serious about medicine long before they ever apply to us. Frostburg has built a strong pre-med foundation, and we're glad to give their students a clearer, more direct path toward earning their MD,” said Dr. Paula Wales, Provost and COO of Western Atlantic University School of Medicine.

“This partnership creates an exciting new opportunity for our pre-med students to take the next step toward their goal of becoming physicians,” said Frostburg President Dr. Shadow JQ Robinson. “By providing a clear pathway to medical school, we are helping students build on the strong academic foundation they receive at Frostburg while opening doors to opportunities that can prepare them to serve communities in need. We are proud to partner with WAUSM and to give our students another valuable pathway toward careers in medicine.”

As part of the agreement, WAUSM will hold an annual on-campus information session at FSU to walk students through the pathway, answer questions, and help them prepare competitive applications.
