Bobcat Bulletin Alumni Spotlight highlights alumni who give back to Frostburg in some way – time, talent, treasure or any combination. This edition of Bobcat Bulletin features Capt. Christopher Glass '84.
Current Occupation: President of the Institute of World Politics, Graduate School of Washington D.C.
Why did you choose to attend FSU?
The Political Science Department and Senator John Bambacus '70 were a great influence on me and attracted me to Frostburg. Also, the U.S. Navy encouraged me to attend the Army ROTC program to receive my commission.
Which faculty and/or staff member influenced you as a student?
Senator John Bambacus '70. He not only took the time to teach, but also to provide wise and prudent counsel for future career decisions.
What is your favorite memory as a student?
Meeting my future wife, Linda Tammaru ’83, on May 13, 1983, at the Lane University Center.

List any professional or personal accomplishments we can celebrate with you.
Linda Carol Tammaru Glass ‘83 and I met at Frostburg and were married in December 1984 after I graduated and finished Engineer Officer training. Marrying her was the greatest accomplishment of my life! This year we celebrate 42 years of marriage, six children and five grandchildren. Our hearts always remain focused on Frostburg, where providence brought us together. It has truly been a wonderful life!
What advice would you give to a student currently studying your major?
I was a double major in History and Political Science. Both undergraduate degrees provide a solid basis if one is called to serve in the intelligence community, diplomatic or military services of our nation. Stick with it and make a positive impact serving others.
Tell us about a class or activity at FSU that has had a surprising effect on your life.
My education at Frostburg prepared me for a career in the Maritime Intelligence military and industry community. While I know that is probably not a normal educational outcome which Frostburg advertises, it is a path and option which a Frostburg education equips one to pursue. My success as a career Naval Officer, business owner, and now Graduate College President stems from the years I spent at Frostburg.
What is a cause dear to your heart?
Trying to live each day according to my Christian faith and trust in Christ. In the words of John Adams, “Be good, do good”. I am sure I fail at this goal everyday, but it is worth the effort to try.
What do you do for fun?
Spend time with my wife Linda.
What three words can you use to describe FSU?
Beautiful, Peaceful, Future
