Stephen Estrada Exhibition

Stephen Estrada’s paintings reflect an intimate, human connection with the natural world. His work traces his personal journey from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast, as well as travels in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico where he has worked to rebuild homes after hurricanes Katrina and Michael. Stephen continued his studio practice while working as design chief at the Smithsonian and director at the US Department of State's Museum of Diplomacy. He now makes art full-time at his Bethesda, MD studio. He has shown nationally and his work is in collections throughout the United States. He has two daughters and lives in Silver Spring, MD with his wife Leslie and their bullmastiff, Ruby.

Flutist Nina Assimakopoulos presents Guest Artist Recital

The Department of Music Guest Artist Series is pleased to present flutist Nina Assimakopoulos in recital on Friday, September 23, at 7:30 pm in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Pealer Performing Arts Center. Internationally acclaimed flutist Nina Assimakopoulos is credited with over 83 international world-premiere performances and commissions and has released 5 solo CDs. She travels frequently in the USA, Europe, Asia, and South America as a performing artist, masterclass and workshop presenter, and adjudicator at competitions. She is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes including the Aaron Copland Fund Grant for New Music Recording, two Fulbright Grants, and the National Society of Arts and Letters Career Award, and has performed with the Munich City Opera, Bavarian Radio Symphony Academy Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra, and Toledo Symphony Orchestra.
Professor Assimakopoulos has the privilege of working with a studio of wonderful undergraduate through doctoral students at WVU. Her students hold accolades as finalists and prize-winners in numerous national and international competitions including the Fischoff Competition, Intermusica International Concerto Competition, Alexander-Buono International Flute Competition, and the Young Artist Competitions of the National Flute Association, Rochester Flute Association, Southeast Michigan Flute Association, Mid-Atlantic Flute Association, Oklahoma Flute Association, and the Kentucky Flute Association.
Assimakopoulos was a student of Peter Lloyd at the Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, IN and Paul Meisen, at the Academy for Music and Theater, Munich, Germany.
