Counseling & Psychological Services

In response to COVID - 19, CAPS has moved to a telepsychology model for the delivery of services. Individual counseling is still available through video or phone appointments during our regular business hours. Crisis services also remain available outside of our business hours by calling University police at 301-687-4223. However, if you are in immediate need of attention and you are not in the Frostburg area, it may be more beneficial to you to contact your local resources through 911.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a brief but comprehensive counseling services to Frostburg State University students, including individual and group therapy. CAPS is committed to providing culturally sensitive clinical services in a timely manner to our students. Our center is staffed by a variety of licensed mental health providers and trainees under supervision. CAPS facilitates the academic, career, and personal development of students at Frostburg State University. Services are provided by appointment and at no charge to FSU students.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) of Frostburg State University partnered with UPMC Western Maryland in October 2019. 

UPMC Western Maryland is a nonprofit, acute-care hospital located in Cumberland, Maryland. As a nationally recognized leader in community health care, UPMC Western Maryland is the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art hospital in the region. The hospital has been at the forefront of value-based care and is continuously working to improve the overall health of the community through a variety of population health initiatives.

The Steve Fund text "STEVE" to 741-741 The Steve Fund is dedicated to the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color.
Asian LifeNet 1-877-990-8585 Individuals outside of NY can still call this hotline and the service is available in Cantonese and Mandarin. You will be connected to a trained behavioral health professional, who will pay attention to your needs. An experienced crisis counselor will respond to your concerns and help you to decide on comfortable next step in getting help, providing information and a referral in your area. Translation services are available for over 140 languages, ensuring that everyone who calls will be able to access all resources and treatments.
Call Blackline 1-800-604-5841 BlackLine provides a space for peer support, counseling, witnessing and affirming the lived experiences to folks who are most impacted by systematic oppression with an LGBTQ+ Black Femme Lens. Call BlackLine prioritizes BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color).
