Keenan Scott II: Ground-Breaking Writer

 

Keenan Scott II ’09 created Thoughts of a Colored Man as his senior theatre project – a modern-day mix of poetry, music and dance exploring Black men’s inner lives. With FSU’s guidance, he took on writing, directing and producing. The original Frostburg production sold out all three nights within two hours. From this start, Scott developed the play through Howard University workshops and regional performances before its Broadway premiere in October 2021. The play became a theatrical landmark being written, directed, produced and led by Black men. Scott credits FSU’s openness and faculty support for giving him a chance to explore beyond acting.
