Ricky Arnold: Astronaut

Richard R. Arnold ’85 received an Honorary Doctor of Science at FSU’s 154th commencement ceremony in recognition of his extraordinary journey from FSU alumnus to NASA astronaut. After graduating in 1985 with a B.S. in accounting, earning a teacher certification in 1988 and completing a master’s in marine and environmental science at University of Maryland in 1992, Arnold taught science and math around the world from Romania to Indonesia. After training with NASA and becoming an astronaut, Arnold logged over 200 days in space, completed five spacewalks across two missions (STS-119 and Expeditions 55 & 56), and had served as an aquanaut on NEEMO 13. FSU takes pride in nurturing educators like Arnold who make impacts – global and beyond.
