Nearly 400 Attend STEM Festival at FSU

Nearly 400 K-12 students and their parents attended the annual Western Maryland STEM Festival held at FSU on Saturday, November 9. This year’s event featured a range of new activities plus old favorites like the ping pong ball volcano. The FSU-TV studio was open for tours and the Planetarium showed its latest film..Six CLAS departments participated this year, including Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, Psychology, and Physics and Engineering. College of Education STEM students also conducted hands-on activities, building straw rockets and pom pom launchers.
Corporate and community participants included Northrop Grumman, IBM, the Allegany County Library System, Evergreen Heritage Center, Cricket Wireless, and Aetna Health. T-shirts were given to all K-12 students in attendance, through the sponsorship of the FSU Foundation, AES Warrior Run, Cricket Wireless, Children’s Medical Group, and Menchavez Pediatrics. The event was scheduled as a satellite event of the Maryland STEM Festival, a month- long celebration running October 11 to November 10.
