Dr. Chory Receives Top Paper Award

Dr. Rebecca M. Chory, Professor of Management, was awarded Top Paper honors at the 72nd annual meeting of the International Communication Association (ICA) for her paper “Instructor Injustice in COVID-19-Imposed Online Courses: EFL Students’ Perceptions and Experiences in Focus.” The Top Paper Award was bestowed on Dr. Chory by ICA’s Instructional and Developmental Communication Division at ICA’s annual meeting in Paris, France on May 27, 2022. This marks Dr. Chory’s 25th Top Paper Award. The study explored Iranian students’ perceptions of unfair instructor behavior in COVID-19 crisis-prompted online language education. The paper has also been accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed academic journal Communication Quarterly. It was co-authored by Dr. Kiyana Zhaleh and Dr. Masoomeh Estaji, both of Allameh Tabataba’i University.
The award-winning research is the latest in Dr. Chory’s program of research on classroom justice, a construct she introduced 20 years ago with her peer-reviewed journal article in Communication Quarterly entitled “Classroom justice: Perceptions of fairness as a predictor of student motivation, learning, and aggression.” This seminal work has been cited over 350 times. In total, the 12 journal articles in her classroom justice research program have been cited over 1,500 times by scholars across the world.
Dr. Chory (Ph.D., Michigan State University) joined FSU’s College of Business in 2014 after spending 14 years as a professor at West Virginia University. She is a two-time Fulbright Scholar to Budapest, Hungary. Her research focuses on personal workplace relationships, particularly workplace romances and workplace friendships, classroom and organizational justice, and antisocial organizational and instructional behavior. At FSU, she teaches a combination of MBA and undergraduate courses in organizational behavior, leadership, and ethics, as well as a course she developed on sex and workplace relationships.
