FSU’s departments of Biology, Educational Professions and Recreation and Parks Management recently hosted a presentation by Dr. Mamie Parker, titled “A Black Woman’s Journey: Breaking Concrete Blocks to Help Save Our Planet to Save Ourselves." Parker is the former Student Conservation Association chair and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) head of Fisheries and Habitat Conservation.

Dr. Michael Flinn, Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, joined four other faculty and staff members from Frostburg State University to coach teams in the First Lego League Competitions this year, and each team was invited to attend the Maryland State First Lego League Competition on Saturday, February 24, 2024, to compete against 70 other teams.

Congratulations to FSU's team, Kick Master 3000, for winning first place at this year's University of Maryland College Park Design Day. The team's project objective was to produce a football holder that mimics a fast-paced and realistic field goal scenario to better prepare kickers during practice for a game.

Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business invited Dr. Evan Offstein (MGMT) to speak in a couple of classes as well as a University-wide event in early November 2023.

On November 8-9, 2023, seven speakers from various industries came to FSU to speak to select classes within the CBECMS. Six of the seven speakers are alumni and each speaker was assigned a faculty and student liaison to assist with coordination. Student liaisons were also able to use the experiences as developmental opportunities to engage with a successful business professional.

CBECMS and The Allegany Chamber of Commerce collaborated to hold the 2023 Allegany County Local Business Showcase in the evening of October 18 at the Lane Student Center. Dr. Dong Wook Huh (MGMT) co-chaired the event to add several practical workshops throughout the day and helped organize a discussion forum on building and deepening the relationship between the College and the local business community.

Homecoming 2023 was nothing short of spectacular thanks to the vibrant spirit showcased at the first-ever Intercollege Tailgate hosted by the Recreation and Parks Department with the support of the Student Recreation Society. This exciting event brought together the College of Business, Engineering, and Computational & Mathematical Sciences (CBECMS) and the College of Education and Health & Natural Sciences (CEHNS) for an unforgettable celebration.

The FSU AMA chapter (formerly known as the Marketing Club) and their advisor, Dr. Lilly Ye (MKTG) traveled to New York City for the One Diversity Industry conference at Fordham University in New York City on October 6, 2023. This student-centered conference, which focused on personal branding, diversity, and leadership in the business world, provided a unique chance for the students to immerse themselves in diverse perspectives, network with industry professionals, and enhance their understanding of global business practices.

The FSU Marketing Club has been striving to return to normalcy through several meaningful engagement activities over the Spring 2022 semester with some of the worst effects of COVID-19 receding. Student membership of the club kept growing despite the disruptions imposed by the pandemic.

This past October, the Baylor School (Chattanooga, TN) Class of 1971 celebrated its 50th high school class reunion and part of the festivities involved inducting former students into their Athletics Hall of Fame. Dr. Bill Anderson (ECON) was included in the 2021 prestigious group for his performance in Track and Field.

In September 2021, the College of Business suddenly lost beloved faculty member, Dr. Eyad Youssef, Assistant Professor of Marketing, who came to FSU in Fall 2016. An excellent teacher-scholar and mentor to his students, Dr. Youssef truly distinguished himself in the area of service to the Department, College, and University.
