The Department of Geography secured a $250,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant to assist and support them with meaningful experiential learning for students and the community. The Department of Geography, in collaboration with the Maryland Regional GIS Center, hosted a Bones and Drones Event in April of 2024. More than 1,000 members of the public were engaged with the interactive presentation over two days. The Department of Geography continues to forge new interdisciplinary collaborations through its work with ecology, genomic and molecular characteristics of bacteria, and examining the complex currents of geospatial science and other advanced technologies. Additionally, individual geography faculty have submitted and or received internal and external funding for student PELEF fund experience/research and the National Science Foundation.
