Dr. Yum Nguyen in his first year as department chair of Kinesiology took the helm of two programs which recently received their full continuing accreditation from their respective national accreditors - Exercise and Sport Science (CAAHEP) and Athletic Training (CAATE). Since Dr. Nguyen’s arrival in July 2023, he has presented multiple papers at the National Athletic Trainers Association Expo/Clinical Symposia and the 2023 ACSM Annual Meeting. With a new RFP being released to offer scholarships to incoming undergraduate and graduate students, Dr. Nguyen is working with faculty in both disciplines to submit the RFP to increase enrollment in both EXSS and Athletic Training. Drs. Jackie Durst and Lauren Pacinelli made presentations at the Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association annual meeting. Topics include but are not limited to Post Pandemic Strategic Enrollment Tool for recruitment, Lower Body Strength Deficits related to Therma Protective Gear for Rural Volunteer Firefighters as well as Anerobic Capacity for Fire Fighters. As the programs mature and expand service to the community Dr. Nguyen will be meeting with faculty from health sciences and social work to re-imagine a community health program that will rely upon the interdisciplinary intersections to meet the needs of students and the community at large.
