The Department of Nursing continues to expand, grow, prepare, and educate nurses throughout the country. The Nursing program is only one of three LPN to BSN programs in the country to offer a complete degree exclusively online. This past year the Department of Nursing received three NSP II-MHEC grants totaling $3,765,578 to build pre-licensure capacity, increase the number of LPN to BSN students and provide faculty professional development. In the spring of 2023, the Department of Nursing was awarded a grant exceeding $1.5 million by the Maryland Higher Education Commission’s Nurse Support Program II. The funds have been used to establish a four-year pre-licensure nursing program at FSU. To date, the program continues to have an exceedingly high application rate and is, on average, hiring two nursing faculty and staff each academic year.
The nursing faculty continue to be engaged in professional presentations and participating and serving on Boards, locally, statewide and internationally. The nursing faculty, particularly the Chair, Dr. Kara Platt, works internationally with nursing programs in the Middle East and is consistently engaged in professional development of nurses across the waters.
