Frostburg State University’s Social Work Program has been granted eight years of continuing accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) for meeting all educational policies and accreditation standards. CSWE accreditation ensures that programs provide high-quality preparation for professional practice. FSU’s program has maintained continuous CSWE accreditation for more than 30 years.
“Accreditation is the hallmark of any profession, and the only assurance to the public that national standards have been met,” said Boyce Williams, PhD, Dean of the College of Education, Behavioral & Health Professions. “The Department of Labor projects that social work in health care will grow faster than average, and the college takes great pride in having all our behavioral and health professions programs nationally accredited.”
FSU’s Social Work Program prepares students for entry-level careers by emphasizing the profession’s theoretical foundations, the importance of human relationships, and hands-on learning through advocacy and research. Graduates of the CSWEaccredited program are eligible to apply for the baccalaureate social work licensure exam in the state where they plan to practice.
“FSU’s team has achieved remarkable success with this program,” said Yum Nguyen, PhD, ATC, interim assistant dean. “This milestone is a testament to their talent and perseverance.” Nancy Giunta, PhD, MSW, MA, associate professor and director of the program, added: “Congratulations to everyone involved for their dedication and support throughout this lengthy process.”
