Frostburg State University’s Graduate Athletic Training Program has been granted 10 years of continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), the maximum term awarded. The recognition affirms the program’s commitment to excellence in preparing students for careers in athletic training and allied health professions.
Dr. Jaqueline Durst, interim chair and associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation and Parks Management and Program Director for Athletic Training, shared the news with colleagues and thanked faculty and staff for their support throughout the rigorous self-study and review process. Dr. Yum Nguyen, interim assistant dean of the College of Education, Behavioral and Health Professions, called the reaccreditation a “monumental milestone” reflecting the program’s leadership, collaboration, and commitment to exceeding CAATE standards.
The decision follows an extensive evaluation confirming that FSU’s program meets national benchmarks for quality and professional preparation. The next comprehensive review is scheduled for the 2034–2035 academic year.
FSU’s two-year professional graduate program launched in Summer 2022, complementing the five-year combined EXSS/MSAT pathway introduced in 2019. With 47 years of history and initial CAATE accreditation in 2004, the program continues to build on a strong tradition in sports medicine and athletic training education.
The 10-year reaccreditation underscores Frostburg’s ongoing dedication to developing skilled, compassionate, and innovative healthcare professionals.
