The Halloween Event
Annually, before the actual day of Halloween, in collaboration with Frostburg City’s Parks and Recreation Director Brian Vought, students of Frostburg State’s Recreation and Parks Management Major help in putting on the Halloween Event for the Frostburg Community. After the City’s Halloween Parade, families come to City Place from all around the Frostburg area to see what the Rec and Parks students in the Program Planning class come together to create a haunted house, various kid-friendly games, and pumpkin decorating. In the weeks leading up to the event, students brainstorm themes, design floor plans for the haunted house, and gather materials to ensure everything runs smoothly. There is also candy for the children to enjoy — it’s a safe, supervised trick-ortreat- style experience. This event offers students real-world experience and insight into what it takes to run an event for the community, and it’s a great experience for children and others as it emphasizes family-friendly, kid-centered activities and celebrates Halloween. For the event, four student coordinators oversee its operation; this year, they were Shenandoah Wolf, Scout Spadoni, Faith Stevenson, and Asher Archer-DePace. Professor Curtis Clemens, at the end of the event, noted that it was one of the smoothest runnings of the Halloween Event he had seen.
Trunk or Treat

Frostburg State University Athletics hosts an annual Trunk-or-Treat as part of the larger Halloween festivities in Frostburg, Maryland. The event is held in the parking garage next to City Place immediately after the downtown Frostburg Halloween Parade. During Trunk-or-Treat, FSU athletic teams decorate the trunks of their vehicles and hand out candy to children in costume, creating a safe and fun alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating. The event is designed to be familyfriendly and welcoming, giving local kids a chance to meet student-athletes while enjoying a festive Halloween environment. It complements the town’s other seasonal events, including the parade, the Halloween Event, and the haunted-house activities at City Place, making the evening a full community celebration. Each year, the teams choose displays, drawing big smiles from children and parents alike. The enthusiastic participation from studentathletes highlights their commitment to service and their pride in engaging with local families. Overall, the FSU Athletics Trunk-or-Treat strengthens ties between the university and the surrounding community through a cheerful and accessible Halloween tradition.
