The Council advises the Chancellor and Board of Regents in the University of Maryland System (USM). The commentaries and the inniatives that followed had considerable impact. The New Leisure Class - The rise of the "29ers" - (written 1/2/15; posted 6/23/17) "Each semester I asked my students if we are a leisure society. It is a question that I could probably argue either way. Personally, I think we are a leisure society but at the same time we seek to deny that we are. The current president has stated repeatedly that he seeks to “fundamentally transform the country.” Although he has facilitated rapid change, the transformation that he seeks has really been occurring over the last hundred and fifty years. The primary issue is one of capitalism versus socialism. The transformation has a direct impact on leisure, and if we are to continue as a leisure society, that is if we were a leisure society in the first place." ....
