CES at Frostburg State University to Present Another Season of On the EDGE

CES at Frostburg State University will once again offer the exciting underground club series, On the EDGE, featuring cutting-edge performers who stretch the boundaries of their art forms. All 2017-18 season shows begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall of FSU’s Lane University Center and feature informal table seating, comfortable couch and armchair seating, and food and beverage options.

First up is the Kelly Bell Band, voted the top blues band in Baltimore for 12 years running. The performance on Thursday, Oct. 5, will reveal the band’s characteristic blend of soul, blues, reggae and funk. Originally formed as a backup band for Bo Diddley, the group is in its 12th year of creating music and entertaining fans.

The Acrobats of Cirque-tacular will present a stunning performance on Thursday, Dec. 7. The company’s aerialists, acrobats, contortionists and illusionists bound from one breathtaking, death-defying feat to another. The family-friendly show is appropriate for all ages.

New York-based actress and playwright Qurrat Ann Kadwani will perform “They Call Me Q” on Thursday, Feb. 15. 2018. The one-woman play follows the story of a girl from Bombay who is growing up in the Bronx and seeking a balance between cultural pressures. Laden with heart and abundant humor, “They Call Me Q” speaks to the universal search for identity experienced by immigrants of all nationalities.

Vivacious singer-songwriter Risa Binder closes out the On the EDGE season on Thursday, April 12. Since breaking through with her critically acclaimed 2014 EP “Nashville,” the Emmy-nominated musician has emerged as a county music powerhouse.
