Every year, Americans sit down with friends and families on the third Thursday in November for Thanksgiving. For the past six years, on the following Tuesday, the international community has also celebrated Giving Tuesday, a day when people support participating charities around the world.

For 2017, Giving Tuesday falls on Nov. 28, and the Frostburg State University Foundation, Inc., will take part for the first time, raising funds for two causes that benefit students and residents in Western Maryland, WFWM Public Radio and the FSU Annual Fund.

WFWM, Western Maryland’s local source of NPR programming, plays an important role in the regional community. From its eclectic variety of music and news from around the world, to its community calendar, live musical events throughout Western Maryland and much more, WFWM is “always good company.” As a public radio station, WFWM relies on financial contributions from listeners to provide the first-rate programming that Western Marylanders have come to enjoy.

The FSU Foundation will also raise funds to support Frostburg’s Annual Fund, which gives the University flexibility to meet unexpected needs and fund new programs and initiatives.

The Annual Fund makes a major impact in Frostburg by responding to emerging needs of the University community. Since 2009, the Annual Fund has issued 220 Opportunity Grants to support student and faculty initiatives. Those grants, totaling more than $650,000, have funded numerous meaningful programs and experiences. Just one example is the annual College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Research Symposium. In May, 221 students from 13 academic departments presented 137 unique research projects to an audience of faculty, staff, students and community members.
