FSU Earns High Marks in Washington Monthly 2021 College Guide and Rankings

Washington Monthly College Guide magazine coverIn its annual College Guide and Rankings, The Washington Monthly ranked Frostburg State University first among public universities in Maryland, ninth in the category of service and 44th in the country overall in its “Master’s Level Colleges and Universities” category. FSU was also ranked 91st in the Northeast in the “Best Bang for the Buck” category.

The College Guide is included in the September/October 2021 issue of Washington Monthly, a bimonthly nonprofit magazine that covers United States politics and government.

In its list of master’s level colleges and universities, the publication includes 616 institutions that award a significant number of master’s degrees but few or no doctoral degrees. The best bang for the buck listing includes schools where students of modest means get the most for their money.

“We rank four-year schools (national universities, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate colleges, and master’s universities) based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and providing opportunities for public service,” according to the description of this year’s rankings.

Situated in the mountains of Allegany County, Frostburg State University is one of the 12 institutions of the University System of Maryland.
