A Black History Month Program of the Dr. Edna Mckenzie Branch of ASALH
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) Black History theme for 2022 is Black Health and Wellness. One of the Black History programs will be the Knowledge Bowl.
Participating schools are:
- Howard University
- Frostburg State
- Morgan State
- Hampton University
February 12, 2022
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
This is a virtual program.
A team of three students from each participating school will represent their school in the KNOWLEDGE BOWL. Questions will be based on basic and general Black History.
There will be ten rounds of questions for each school. Each correct answer equals 10 points. The highest number of points wins the contest. In case of a tie, there will be a sudden death overtime match with each team given one question.
Questions will be formulated from the following books:
- From Slavery To Freedom, John Hope Franklin
- A Black Woman's history of the United States, Daina Berry
- Before The Mayflower, Lerone Bennett
- Notable Black Men in America, Jessie Carney Smith
- African American Odyssey, Darlene Clark Hine
Sample questions include:
- Name two Black female transportation pioneers.
- Joseph Cinque led a takeover of what ship?
- Name one book that documents the arrival of Africans in the Americas before the arrival of Christopher Columbus?
- Queen N' Zinga is from what country?
- Why is the summer of 1918 referred to as the Red Summer?
- Name one Black town in the United States of America?
Prizes will be awarded.
