Black Hair Presentation
Mar 6, 2024 12:00 AM
In collaboration with the Black Student Alliance, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion hosted a unique Black Hair presentation. This event delved into the profound influence perceptions of hair can have within the Black community, shedding light on its role in shaping personal identity. The presenter was St. Clair Detrick-Jules. Her primary motivation in starting this work was to improve the self-awareness and self-esteem of her little sister who was being teased and bullied about her tightly coiled hair. St. Clair wanted to show her little sister how to love her hair, as well where she came from. Ms. Saint Clair has written and published two books, "My Beautiful Black Hair" and "My Hair Is Like the Sun."
