This mobile museum housed a collection of rare artifacts that span a wide range of themes. Established by the visionary, educator, and scholar Dr. Khalid el-Hakim, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum stands as a renowned repository comprising over 10,000 original artifacts, spanning from the painful era of the trans-Atlantic slave trade to the vibrant culture of hip-hop. It goes beyond the expected, showcasing not just slavery, politics, Jim Crow, science, religion, education, music, sports, and civil rights but also authentic documents bearing the signatures of revered figures such as Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, Mary Mcleod Bethune, W.E.B. Dubois, Paul Robeson, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., George Washington Carver, Lena Horne, Carter G. Woodson, Angela Davis, and numerous other influential historical icons. This exhibit was a good inspiration for students as they saw the evolution of music in the black community and its impact on the civil rights movement.
