2025 Appalachian Lab Interns

Geography major Jason Haley (Front row on the left in the photo), Chemistry major Ty Kashporenko (front row, right), and chemistry minor Nathan Poulin (back row, left) conducted environmental science research over the summer of 2025 at the Appalachian Laboratory of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES).

Jason developed a virtual reality communication tool focusing on greener farming practices. Ty and Nathan examined the ratios of stable isotopes in the feathers of bird species in central Asia to learn about their migration behavior.

The research internships at the UMCES Appalachian Lab are just one of the many paid research internships available to students in FSU’s Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences.
