Dual Enrollment Program Details

Admission Requirements

  • Admission to a participating community college nursing program
  • Competitive, selective process based on completed coursework, GPA, and partner-school approval
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in required admission courses
  • All additional required courses must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to the first nursing course
Required Course Equivalents:
  • Chemistry (CHEM 100, 150, or 201) – 4 credits, including lab
  • Statistics (MATH 109) – 3–4 credits
  • Nutrition (EXSS 200) – 3 credits
  • Sociology (SOCI 100) – 3 credits

Program Progression

  • Students must remain enrolled in the community college nursing program to continue in dual enrollment
  • All coursework must follow the approved curriculum sequence
  • Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN is required before finishing remaining FSU courses

Advanced Composition (ENGL 308)

Students are strongly encouraged to take ENGL 308: Advanced Composition early in the program (typically during the second or third FSU semester). This course builds APA writing skills that are essential for success in upper-level nursing coursework.

Note: This course must be completed through Frostburg State University and cannot be taken at a community college.

Prerequisites for Upper-Level Nursing Courses

  • Prior to enrolling in NURS 401, students must complete a 3-credit nutrition course equivalent to EXSS 200
  • Prior to enrolling in NURS 402, students must complete a 3-credit statistics course equivalent to MATH 109

Online Orientation

All students are required to complete an online orientation course. This six-week, no-cost course introduces students to the RN–BSN program, learning platform, academic expectations, and student resources such as advising, library services, and technical support.

Completion of the orientation is mandatory.

Students may request an FSU ID once officially enrolled in classes. If you are not yet registered in PeopleSoft/PAWS, please wait to submit your photo.

Textbooks

Textbook information is available through the FSU Bookstore website under the “Textbooks” tab. The same textbook is used across all sections of each course.
