Mission

To prepare the individual to be a professional health care practitioner who provides compassionate care that is based on scientific evidence and who serves as the link between the patient (individual, family, community, or population) and the health care environment across the lifespan. This program provides student centered learning experiences in a supportive community to prepare students to assume leadership positions, manage complex clinical care, and prepare graduates to assume responsibility and accountability for health promotion of citizens within the community and across the nation. 

Vision

The nursing program at FSU strives to be the program of choice for students who choose to pursue a degree in nursing. Nursing graduates will demonstrate critical thinking, collaboration with other health care professionals, and a willingness to engage individuals, families, and communities in making decisions about health.

Undergraduate Program Goal

Undergraduate Program Objectives

The BSN Program prepares the graduate to:  

  1. Demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attributes of professional nursing practice (AACN Domain 9)
  2. Integrate scientific evidence with clinical judgment and patient preference to improve patient outcomes. (AACN Domain 2)
  3. Provide evidenced-based, preventative health care to families, communities and vulnerable populations in community-based settings.(AACN Domain 3)
  4. Identify and apply basic elements of nursing research. (AACN Domain 4)
  5. Utilize quality improvement and safety management principles in clinical nursing practice.(AACN Domain 5)
  6. Apply leadership concepts and collaborative strategies to the process of nursing care delivery.(AACN Domain 10)
  7. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills and collaborative strategies that support the delivery of interdisciplinary, patient-centered care. (AACN Domain 6)
  8. Describe the ethical, legal, political and financial influences on the delivery of patient care. (AACN Domain 7)

Graduate Program Goal

The M.S. in Nursing at Frostburg State University aspires to prepare nurses for the complexities of health and nursing care in today’s contemporary, urban, and rural care environment with a broad understanding of the discipline of nursing in order to engage in higher level practice, leadership and teaching in a variety of settings. 

Graduate Program Objectives

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to: 

  1. Integrate critical thinking and creativity to provide higher levels of leadership and practice in nursing and healthcare systems.(AACN Domain 10)
  2. Synthesize the impact of relationships between organizational and systems leadership as it relates to the implementation of quality and safe patient care delivery.(AACN Domain 5)
  3. Apply evidence-based methods, tools, performance measures, and standards that relate to the integration of quality principles within complex care settings.(AACN Domain 4)
  4. Execute the change agent role by translating and disseminating quality evidence to resolve practice issues and improve outcomes.(AACN Domain 4)
  5. Implement the use of communication and patient care technologies to coordinate the delivery of integrated care across inter-disciplinary healthcare teams.(AACN Domain 8)
  6. Advocate at the system level for policy transformation to improve health and health systems.(AACN Domain 7)
  7. Execute effective communication to collaborate and consult with inter-professional teams to manage and coordinator care.(AACN Domain 6 and 9)
  8. Integrate care across the continuum to provide patient-centered, culturally appropriate services to diverse populations through evidence-based planning, delivery, management, and evaluation, and evaluation. (AACN Domain 2& 3)
  9. Develop advanced nursing practice interventions that influence both direct and indirect care components to improve healthcare outcomes for individuals, populations, and systems.(AACN Domain 1)

The Maryland Board of Nursing and MHEC approve and regulate FSU nursing programs.
