Department of Psychology

We welcome you to the Department of Psychology at Frostburg State University, one of the most popular majors on campus. We invite you to learn more about us by browsing through our web pages.

General Information

What is Psychology? Psychology is a fascinating and challenging field. Through observation, inquiry, and research, the complex and changing world of behavior and mental processes is explored. The rich diversity of the field covers a wide range of topics ranging from the biochemistry of depression to the use of pets in therapy, from improving memory to helping reduce performance anxiety, from how culture influences attraction to childhood gender differences in aggression, and much, much more. Psychological research investigates practical issues that concern most people as well as theoretical ideas that challenge our critical thinking. Contemporary psychology provides students with a thriving major where accumulated knowledge about the science of human and animal behavior is applied to practical problems and questions.
