Location and Telescopes

Observatory Location

The Observatory is located on the roof of the Gira CCIT building. It features a robotically mounted 14" Schmidt–Cassegrain telescope and several cameras. Students use the observatory for projects under the guidance of a trained faculty or staff member. The MLC also has many telescopes for using after planetarium shows, elsewhere on campus, and special events.

Telescopes

The MLC has many telescopes for events, outreach, and student use. The typical route for training on how to use a telescope involves volunteering as a telescope operator after planetarium shows or special observing events. Sufficiently trained students, faculty, and staff enjoy easy access to these telescopes for their own enjoyment. Please contact us if you are interested in being a telescope operator.
