Major: Theatre major on the design and technology track with a minor in management
Hometown: Hagerstown, Md.
Why did you choose to attend Frostburg State University?
I chose to attend Frostburg State University because of the small “home like” campus feel. I like smaller classes so I can connect with my professors more including having more hands on experience within my major. It is also pretty close to home. As a big family person, being able to see my siblings and little niece grow up was important to me.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
I am a member of the Presidents Leadership Circle. Theatre takes up the majority of my free time. Between two campus jobs, and rehearsals each night - I'm busy!
What is your favorite memory as a student?
My favorite memory here at Frostburg is opening my very first production as a freshman. I was the assistant stage manager for a show called “Silent Sky” directed by Darrell Rushton, which opened in the planetarium on campus.
Which faculty and/or staff member has influenced you as a student?
My Design and Technology professor Matthew Georgeson (George) has influenced me the most. Each and every day he checks on his students and challenges us to do our very best. He has taught me everything I need to know in order to graduate and go into the theatre industry.
What advice would you give to a student currently studying your major?
It’s hard. You will have late nights and challenging moments. But when you open that show, when all of that hard work pays off, there is nothing like it. So, keep working hard, keep going, and try your best in everything you do.
Tell us about a class or activity at FSU that has had a surprising effect on your life.
When I applied at the Alumni Relations Office, I didn’t think it would have such a big effect on my life. But everyone in that office has changed my experience here at FSU for the better. I have learned key life skills, what friendship is, and how to navigate college life.
What is a cause dear to your heart?
I hold the arts dear to my heart--theatre, dance, music, visual arts, and everything in between. As an underfunded community, supporting local artists goes such a long way.
What do you do for fun?
At Frostburg, I love to get with some friends, go to the Frostburg Freeze, and usually grab Sand Springs To-Go! I love time with my friends!
What three words can you use to describe FSU?
Frostburg State University is innovative, inclusive and dynamic. FSU constantly helps push students to the highest of their abilities while keeping a positive attitude and diverse community.
