How long have you worked at FSU?

I have been at FSU since July 2018 when I started in the Nursing Department.

What 3 words can you use to describe FSU?

Three words I would use to describe FSU would be supportive, welcoming and charming.

List any professional or personal accomplishments we can celebrate with you.

Since starting in the Career Services office, I have made a personal goal to increase student engagement at FSU via social media. I have more than doubled our Instagram followers in the past year which has tremendously helped our office reach students. This has helped students to be more aware of events happening not only in our office but the campus, as well as sharing scholarships, jobs and internship opportunities available to them.

What is your favorite thing about working at Frostburg State University?

My favorite thing about working at FSU is being able to watch the students grow academically, personally and professionally from their freshman year to graduation. I also love that our office is able to collaborate with student organizations to bring exciting and engaging events to the campus.

Is there a faculty and/or staff member that you consider a mentor? If so, who and why?

I love working with Amy Shimko '94/M'20 and Larissa Allen, and I consider them both to be wonderful mentors not only to myself but also to students. It is encouraging for me personally to witness them help students navigate not only their journey at FSU, but the journey of life after FSU. Everyone needs people in their life that help push them to be the best version of themselves!

What advice would you give to current students?

I would advise students to get out there and engage in events and organizations at FSU, and in the community! Take advantage of your time here. All of the opportunities available to you will lead to personal development, help you create new relationships, and guide you on the path to finding out who you are. You never know what doors will open to you after college just from the connections you make while here!

What is a cause near and dear to your heart and why?

A cause that is dear to my heart right now is the Bobcat Career Closet. Our office was lucky enough to be able to receive funding to build the Career Closet so that students who are in need of professional clothing can take what they need when they need it, for free! We just opened the closet to the campus this semester and have already had a ton of students utilize it! It is also a great way for faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community to give back to FSU by means of clothing donations!

What do you do for fun?

As a mother of three, the best times for me are hanging out with my kids! Watching them play sports or going on trips. I also love to read, go camping, and go to baseball games in the summer with friends and family!
