Why did you choose to attend Frostburg State University?
I chose to attend Frostburg State University for several reasons. Being close to home was important to me, and Frostburg felt like the perfect fit. Both of my parents are alumni, and my dad also works at the university, so Frostburg has always been a special place to my family. I also love the sense of community on campus and how welcoming everyone is. The class sizes are another thing I really appreciate because they allow me to build relationships with my professors and get more individualized support when I need it.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
During my junior year, I was involved in the Education Club (FSEA) and worked at the University Store on campus for almost four years. I now work as a graduate assistant in the Alumni Relations Office.
What is your favorite memory as a student?
I don’t have one specific memory that stands out, but some of my favorite memories at Frostburg come from working at the University Store and the friendships I’ve made along the way. Frostburg has brought some amazing people into my life, and the friendships I’ve made here are something I will always be grateful for.
Which faculty and/or staff member has influenced you as a student?
The faculty member who has had the biggest influence on me as a student is Dr. Jodi Eirich ‘97. For a lot of my time in college, I was unsure of what career I wanted to pursue. Dr. Eirich encouraged me to take some of her education classes, which ultimately helped me discover my interest in education and decide on my career path. She truly cares about her students and is always supportive and understanding.
What advice would you give to a student currently studying your major?
My advice would be to always remember why you chose this career in the first place. Graduate school can be overwhelming, especially when you are trying to balance school, work, and your personal life. There will be times when things feel hectic and stressful but remember that a career in school counseling is so rewarding and gives you the opportunity to make a real difference in students' lives.
Tell us about a class or activity at FSU that has had a surprising effect on your life.
An activity at FSU that has had a big impact on my life has been working at the University Store during my undergraduate years and now working as a graduate assistant in the Alumni Relations Office. Both experiences have given me so many opportunities to meet new people, build meaningful relationships, and make connections that I will carry with me beyond my time at Frostburg. These experiences have made me love and appreciate Frostburg State University and the community even more.
What is a cause dear to your heart?
A cause that is dear to my heart is making sure every child has equal opportunities to succeed and access to the support and resources they need. This is something I hope to make a difference in through my future career as a school counselor.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, being outdoors, taking Pilates classes, going on walks, and shopping!
What three words can you use to describe FSU?
Welcoming, Connected, Fulfilling.
