RN to BSN Program Details

Program Details 

The RN to BSN program consists of 32 nursing credits. Students are awarded 30 credits for an unencumbered US RN license.Students may transfer up to 70 credits from a Maryland Community College and up to 90 credits from a four-year college or university. A minimum of 30 credits must be completed through Frostburg State University to earn a degree from FSU. A total of 120 credits are required to graduate with a BSN degree.

Advanced Composition

We recommend taking your 300 level Advanced Composition class (ENGL 308) early in the program. This course is placed in the second or third semester of your progression with FSU. The APA formatting that you learn in this class will better prepare you to write your papers in the nursing program. This course cannot be taken through your community college.

Prerequisites

  • Before you can enroll in NURS 401, you must have completed a three-credit nutrition class equivalent to our EXSS 200 (previously HEED 200).
  • Before you can enroll in NURS 402, you must have completed a three-credit statistics class equivalent to our MATH 109 (previously 209).

Orientation

You will be enrolled in an online orientation class. The online orientation course will allow you time to get familiar with the RN-BSN Program, our Learning Management System, and Student Resources including technical support, library assistance, and advising processes.  There is no charge for this course. Completion of the six-week course is mandatory.

Student Identification Card

To receive an FSU ID you must be enrolled in classes. If you are not registered for the current semester through People Soft/Paws, please wait to submit your picture.

  • Send a snapshot of your head with a light blue background as a jpeg attachment. PLEASE DO NOT SEND A PHOTOSHOP IMAGE.
  • Please allow 10 to 15 business days for the return. If your photo is not acceptable, ID Services will send you a response and request another picture.

Textbooks

Textbook information can be found on our FSU Bookstore website, under “TEXTBOOKS” tab.   The same textbook is used in all sections of the class.

Criminal Background

Information: Some states' laws require a criminal background check and may disqualify an individual from obtaining licensure if the individual has been convicted of certain crimes. If you have a criminal background, please check with the appropriate state licensing board where you wish to work for more information.
