Facilities

The Department of Physical and Environmental Science at Frostburg State University is home to modern undergraduate teaching and research laboratories and state-of-the-art technology in the Compton Science Center, the Education and Health Science Center, and Gunter Hall. The FSU Planetarium is in the Gira Center, and the Western MD GIS Center is located in the Lewis J. Ort Library.

Compton Science Center

The Compton Science Center is home to Chemistry and Physics classrooms, labs, and faculty offices. A student lounge and study area is located on the third floor. Laboratory spaces include the Bayer Material Science Analytical Chemistry Lab, the Larry A. Johnson General Chemistry Lab, the Western MD NMR Center, a biochemistry lab, a physical chemistry lab, an instrumental analysis lab, an advanced physics lab, and multiple research lab spaces. Labs in Compton feature state of the art chemistry and physics instruments that are used by students at all levels for both classes and research.

Gunter Hall

Gunter Hall is home to Earth Science, Environmental Science, and Geography classrooms, labs, and faculty offices. A student lounge is located on the second floor. Laboratory spaces include an Unmanned Aircraft Systems/Remote Sensing lab, a soils and sediments lab, an analytical measurement lab, a geomorphology lab, a mapping sciences lab, and a hydrology lab.
