Student Organizations

Student Members of the American Chemical Society / American Physical Society (SMACS & APS)

SMACS & APS organizes and conducts chemistry demonstrations for local elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as the general public. Students from any major with an interest in chemistry or physics and a desire to promote science in local schools are welcome. Contact Dr. Katie Gares for more information.


Geography Club

The Geography Club hosts monthly meetings with presentations and social events. The club also does community service related hosts outings such as biking and hiking. The Geography Club is open to students interested in physical or human geography. Contact Dr. Richard Russo or Mr. Adam Lewis for more information.


Gamma Sigma Epsilon (GSE)

Frostburg State University is home to the Gamma Epsilon chapter of the Gamma Sigma Epsilon National Chemistry Honor Society. Membership is open to all students who meet the following criteria:

  • Complete sixteen credits in chemistry courses
  • A minimum chemistry GPA of 3.0
  • A minimum overall GPA of 3.0
Students with 8 credits in chemistry may join as associate members. Contact Dr. Holly Currie for more information.

Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU)

GTU is the Frostburg chapter of the International Geographic Honor Society. Membership is open to all students who meet the following criteria:

  • Complete at least 3 geography courses
  • A minimum geography GPA of 3.3
  • A minimum overall GPA of 3.3
  • Complete at least 3 semesters of college

Pre-Med Society

Many chemistry majors join the Pre-Med Society, an organization for students planning to attend professional schools in the medical fields. The Pre-Med Society hosts speakers and events to prepare students for careers in the medical professions and hosts or participates in a number of charitable events.
