What can I do with a degree in emerging media?

The Emerging Media major is designed to give students a broad understanding of the media communication process.  Understanding today’s media is critical for nearly all industries.  Students with a degree in emerging media should possess strong speaking, writing, and critical thinking skills that most employers covet.  Graduates of our program work in a wide range of industries including public relations, promotion, audio production, video production, graphic design, sales, events planning, journalism, marketing, and much more.  Emerging Media graduates also work in various government agencies.

Why FSU?

Frostburg State University is known for small class sizes and individual student assistance.  The Emerging Media faculty are committed to the same approach.  Students are assigned an advisor within the Department who will help guide them through the curriculum.  We do expect students to take responsibility for their success, but are willing to answer questions and provide assistance when called upon.

Do I have to be a emerging media major/minor to participate in FSU-TV3?

All Frostburg State University students can participate in FSU-TV3, but priority will be given to emerging media majors and students enrolled in specific emerging media classes.

How big is the Emerging Media Program?

The emerging media major is one of the largest majors at Frostburg State University.  There are approximately 200 students majoring in emerging media.

How big will my Emerging Media classes be?

Despite the large number of students within the major we strive to have small classes.  Hands-on “skills” classes typically have 15 or fewer students.  Traditional “lecture-oriented” classes generally have about 25 students.

How do I declare my major or minor in emerging media?

If you would like to declare a major or a minor in emerging media you may contact the departmental office at 301.687.3049, email us at mcom@frostburg.edu, or stop by the office in Gira Center 348.  The office is generally open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

How do I get assigned an advisor within the Emerging Media Program?

Once you officially declare your emerging media major you will be assigned an advisor within the department.  We attempt to match students with advisors who have similar professional interests.  If you have a personal preference, regarding an advisor assignment, we will do our best to accommodate it.
