Entering the United States
Documents You Need at U.S. Port of Entry
To enter the United States as a student, you must carry these documents with you:
- Your passport with U.S. entry visa
- The Form I-20 or DS-2019 issued by Frostburg State University
- Your letter of admission and letter from the Center for International Education (CIE)
- Proof of financial support while in the U.S.
⚠️ Important: Do not pack these in checked luggage. Keep them with you at all times.
U.S. Customs Information
You may bring a reasonable amount of personal items. However, there are rules about plants, animals, and some foods. If you bring $10,000 or more in cash or expensive items, you must declare them at entry.
If you plan to bring items like jewelry or cameras and take them back when you return home, check if they must be registered or declared before leaving your country. This avoids problems with Customs when you re-enter.
Depending on your port of exit, you may also need to check with Customs officials when leaving the U.S.
For questions, contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country before you travel.
