What is Social Norming?

Social norming is the process by which we norm students to actual college student behavior, as opposed to the stereotyped image.

How do you get the information?

Every year the MD-CAS survey is randomly given to students at Frostburg State University. It is taken anonymously and students are encouraged to be honest.

How current is the information displayed?

The MD-CAS Survey was recently administered during the Spring 2025 semester.

The statistics on this page are the results of that survey.

  • 81% of FSU students did not use cannabis in the past month.
  • 73% of FSU students did not use cannabis in the past year.
  • 83% of students who used cannabis in the past year reported smoking it and 55% reported vaping it.
  • 72% of FSU students knew the minimum age to legally use cannabis is 21.
  • 48% of FSU students are experiencing mental health challenges that make daily life somewhat to extremely difficult.
  • 27% of FSU students participated in any gambling or betting in the past 12 months, and 12% participated in sports gambling.
  • 42% of FSU students did not use either alcohol or cannabis during the past year.
  • 41% of FSU students did not drink alcohol in the past year.
  • 55% of FSU students did not drink alcohol in the past month.
  • 80% of FSU students did not binge drink in the past month.
  • Only 8% of FSU students binge drank and used cannabis in the past month.
  • 97% of FSU students feel somewhat safe or very safe on campus during the day.
  • 84% of FSU students feel somewhat safe or very safe on campus at night.
