Program Requirements - Master of Environmental Management in Sustainability

Frostburg State University offers a Master of Environmental Management in Sustainability in collaboration with the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.

This remote graduate degree program prepares you for a wide range of careers in environmental and sustainability management. The degree program is open to students from any undergraduate major who meet the entry requirements.

  • Admission Requirements for the MEM in Sustainability

    The admission requirements for the Master of Environmental Management in Sustainability are:

    • Completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
    • A cross-institutional cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If your GPA is below a 3.0, you may be eligible for provisional admission based on related research or work experience.
    • Official GRE scores are optional and will not be considered as criteria for admissions to the program.
    • Completion of the following prerequisite undergraduate coursework (or equivalent) with a grade of C or better:
      1. Two Introductory Natural Science Courses at the 100- or 200-level (or equivalent) with lab.
      2. Two Advanced Science Courses at the 300- or 400-level (or equivalent) from the broad areas of earth sciences, ecology, energy engineering, environmental science, environmental analysis, sustainability, wildlife and fisheries or others.
      3. Two Quantitative Courses in calculus, computer programming, statistics, or data analysis
      4. Two Foundations Courses related to environmental management or sustainability at the 300- or 400-level (or equivalent) drawn from any discipline.
    • International students may need to demonstrate English proficiency and have their transcripts evaluated for U.S. equivalence.

    • Two additional electives
    • Apprenticeship in Environmental Management
