Transfer FAQ

If your questions aren’t answered here, we are here to help!

  • How do I transfer my credits to Frostburg?

    1. Ask your previous college(s) to send your official transcripts directly to FSU Admissions. Most of the time there will be a link/form on the Registrar’s Office website. There might be a small fee.

    2. We personally review each transcript class to see how your credits fit into your Frostburg State degree plan.

Most courses from accredited schools will transfer!

We need every transcript directly from the degree-granting institution where you earned the credit.

  • Will my GPA transfer with me?

We use your current GPA to determine admission and scholarship eligibility, but your GPA starts over when you transfer to Frostburg State.

  • How many credits can I transfer?

You can bring in up to 90 credits from a four-year institution or 70 from a community college.

  • What if I already have an associate degree?

Perfect! You’re already halfway there. With an AA or AS, many of your general education credits will transfer, putting you on track to jump right into your major courses. After you are admitted and submit your deposit, you will see exactly how your credits apply to your Frostburg State degree!

  • Do I need to submit test scores (SAT/ACT) as a transfer student?

Nope! We don’t require test scores for any students.

  • Can I get scholarships as a transfer student?

Yes! We offer transfer scholarships based on your GPA that are awarded as part of your admissions decision. We also have Foundation Scholarships that open in December and April every year.

  • How do I find out which of my classes count toward my major?

You will get a full credit transfer evaluation within three business days of submitting your official transcripts. After you submit a deposit, you will have access to an advising road map that shows you how your credits apply to specific graduation requirements. You will also be assigned a faculty mentor who will help you develop a semester-by-semester degree plan. If you have questions about advising before you are assigned an advisor, please contact the Transfer and Articulation Coordinator for assistance.

  • What if I want to live on campus?

Transfer students are welcome in our residence halls and apartments. Housing is guaranteed if you apply by the deadline. Students with fewer than 48 credits are bound by our on-campus residency requirements.

  • Can I get involved on campus as a transfer student?

Absolutely. With 100+ student organizations, intramurals, and service opportunities, it’s easy to find your place. At the beginning of each semester, we have activity fairs so you can window shop and see what’s available/what fits you!

  • What’s the deadline to apply as a transfer student?

We accept applications on a rolling basis, but earlier is better for scholarships, aid, and housing.

LPN-BSN students must submit completed university and nursing program applications by October 1 for a spring start and April 1 for a fall start.
