COVID-19 Updates and Information

AP, IB, and CLEP Credit

Frostburg State University grants credit in many fields based on Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). Except as noted, AP, IB, and CLEP credit may be earned within your major as well as in general college and elective courses.

The grade AP, CL, IB, or CE will appear on transcripts to indicate that the credits were earned by examination. Scores must be sent by the testing agency to the Associate Provost. After enrolling, students must request that scores be evaluated, and if high enough for credit to be given, reported to the Registrar's Office.

Advanced Placement

If you successfully completed a College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examination, you can earn college credit from Frostburg State. The university grants college credit for AP examination scores of 3, 4, or 5.

To secure credit, students must ask the College Board to send official AP examination score reports to the Associate Provost. After enrolling, students must request that scores be evaluated, and if high enough for credit to be given, reported to the Registrar's Office. You will not receive a Frostburg State grade for the course in which you earned the AP credit, and AP credits will not be factored into your GPA.

College Level Examination Program

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) provides an alternate way to earn college credit — through standardized national exams that assess the knowledge and skills taught in college-level courses. Minimum score varies by subject area with no score lower than 50 accepted.

To secure credit, students must ask the College Entrance Examination Board to send official AP examination score reports to the Associate Provost. After enrolling, students must request that scores be evaluated, and if high enough for credit to be given, reported to the Registrar's Office.

International Baccalaurate

The International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) is a rigorous two- year curriculum offered in select secondary schools throughout the world. A minimum score of 4 or higher on the Standard or Higher Level exam is required, unless otherwise noted.

In order to receive college credit for IB, you must sit for the examination in each subject of study and ask IB to send an official transcript to the Associate Provost.
