Program Requirements in Earth Sciences

Frostburg State University offers a major and minor in Earth Sciences by which you can earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Earth Sciences.

Study how the Earth was formed, how it evolved and how we can best manage its resources to preserve habitats. Applying interdisciplinary techniques to locate, identify and characterize natural processes, reconstruct landscapes and examine the impacts of climate change on a diverse range of environments, FSU’s earth sciences majors seek answers to today’s most pressing scientific questions.

  • The Earth Sciences Major

    All Earth Sciences majors take the following courses:

      • Physical Geology and Geomorphology
      • Descriptive Meteorology
      • Earth System History
      • Fundamentals of Geographic Data Handling
      • Research Methods in Geography
      • A technique course in cartography, geographic information systems, remote sensing, or surveying
      • Three elective courses
      • A supporting physical science sequence in chemistry, physics, or engineering
      • A senior research project or additional electives

  • The Earth Science Minor

    The Earth Science Minor gives you the opportunity to supplement your studies in another major with several courses in earth science .

    The requirements of the Physics Minor are:

    • Physical Geography
    • Physical Geology and Geomorphology
