The Department of Theatre and Dance at Frostburg State University is excited to host the 5th Mountain Maryland Theatre Festival on January 26 & 27, 2024 in FSU’s Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The 2024 theme honors the grit, determination, and creativity of Theatre Kids.
What is a theatre kid? A theatre kid is someone who shows up. Someone who works hard. And someone who cares about the world around them. A theatre kid understands what it means to be deeply human. They are engaged leaders. They are creators and collaborators. They wear their title as a badge of honor at all stages in life, young and old.
In celebration of these fantastic creatives, the 2024 MMTF weekend will feature exciting workshops in theatre, a keynote experience, awards ceremony, dance, and much more. Here is what theatre kids from 2023 had to say:
- “It was so amazing! I had never had more fun in just two days!”
- “This was my first year attending MMTF, and it was so much fun! I got to connect with so many people and continue to grow my love for the arts and learn from successful people in the business. Can’t wait for next year!”
- “It was really fun experience, and I got to meet new people that are very cool people. I also got to reconnect with people from my other theatre productions! I really like how it brought everyone together.”
The Mountain Maryland Theatre Festival promotes and supports regional performing arts programs by creating development and networking opportunities for young artists and their teachers. The MMTF is open to kids in grades 6 – 12. In 2023, artists from twelve regional schools and programs attended the festival.
The cost of the festival is $50 and includes meals and refreshments on both Friday and Saturday. All registered attendees will receive a festival t-shirt. For information, please contact the Department of Theatre and Dance at 301.687.4145 or theatreanddance@frostburg.edu.
The Mountain Maryland Theatre Festival is made possible due to generous support from the FSU Foundation’s Jonathan Gibralter Regional and Cultural Arts Endowment and the Catherine R. Gira Campus to Community Fund, the Allegany Arts Council and 91.9 WFWM Radio.
