The Theatre major experience at Frostburg State University is rigorous, intense and balanced between mind, body and spirit. The program holds artistic excellence and academic excellence as mutually supportive and equally weighted goals.
In addition to being accepted to Frostburg State University, an audition is required to be admitted into the Acting Track of the Theatre and Dance Department. For those students who successfully audition, the Acting Track provides:
- Professional preparation with conservatory-style training
- A beautiful, state-of-the-art facility
- Tons of on-stage opportunities
- A faculty of experienced, working theatre professionals
- Small personalized classes in a liberal arts curriculum
- Partnerships with local professional theatre companies
- One-on-one advising, mentoring and coaching
The Acting Track is designed to provide pre-professional training within a liberal arts education. Curriculum and performance opportunities prepare students for careers in acting and/or advanced training at the graduate level.
This demanding option requires intense coursework, as students receive thorough, broad-based training from a variety of teachers. Actors take many performance courses, including all levels of acting, movement, voice and speech, stage combat and a “Marketing Yourself as an Actor” class.
To ensure they are well balanced, Acting Track students are also required to take directing, technical theatre courses, theatre history and literature courses as well as the strong University component of liberal arts core.
The Acting Track requires 60 semester hours of credit--30 hours are dedicated to Departmental core curriculum, and 30 more hours to performance classes, Acting as a Business, and Voice and Movement options.
