Thriving on Your CAHSBS Journey
Getting Involved
Finding the right path for you involves more than academics. The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social & Behavioral Sciences Dean's Office encourages all students to get involved in activities outside of the classroom. The more you experience outside, the more connections you’ll be able to make: to people, to other programs, to other opportunities. You never know what might spark your passion!
College of Arts, Humanities, and Social & Behavioral Sciences Departments and Faculty sponsor many student organizations on campus. You can browse Bobcat Connect to find organizations that speak to you. Also, be sure to check out the many events sponsored by the University Programming Council.

Academic Policies and Procedures
Reporting a concern with professional behavior of faculty or staff
If you are experiencing or witnessing a concerning behavior from a member of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social & Behavioral Sciences faculty or staff, the Dean's Office is here to help. Feel free to schedule an appointment by contacting Cindy Troutman at 301.687.4120 or ctroutman@frostburg.edu.
If the incident concerns sexual misconduct or hate and/or bias, we recommend using the relevant reporting form with the Office of Student Affairs.
Initiating a grade grievance
If you feel you received a grade you did not earn, you can initiate the grade grievance procedure, outlined under "University Procedures for Review of Alleged Arbitrary and Capricious Grading" in the undergraduate course catalog. The Dean's Office recommends that students wishing to undergo this procedure keep copies of all graded assignments, the course syllabus, communications with the instructor, and any other relevant course materials.
Students must be able to prove their grade was "arbitrary" and "capricious." As stated in the course catalog, these terms mean:
- the assignment of a course grade to a student on some basis other than performance in the course
- the assignment of a course grade to a student by unreasonable application of standards different from the standards that were applied to other students in that course; or
- the assignment of a course grade by a substantial and unreasonable departure from the instructor’s initially articulated standards.
Late Withdrawal from a Course
If you have an extenuating circumstance (for example, serious illness) requiring late withdrawal from a College of Arts, Humanities, and Social & Behavioral Sciences course, you must obtain authorization from the Dean with information from the instructor of the course. You obtain the proper form for a late course withdrawal from the Registrar's office or the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social & Behavioral Sciences Dean's Office.
Internship and Career Planning and Support
The Career and Professional Development Center offers services for students at all levels of their academic journey. They can assist in choosing a major, exploring career options, finding and applying for internships and jobs, reviewing your resume, and interviewing.
