Completion of the Financial Aid Verification Process

In certain cases, students will need to submit additional documentation to the Financial Aid Office before they will receive a financial aid package, referred to as the verification process. There are a variety of documents that may be required to complete verification, which includes, but is not limited to, verification worksheets, taxes, W-2’s, non-filing tax letters, high school or college transcripts, naturalization papers, birth certificates, death certificates, court documents, military service records, etc. All students who are selected for the verification process by the federal processor will be notified by the Office of Financial Aid via email. Your Student Aid Report (the paper or electronic document that lists your answers to the FAFSA) will also show if a student was selected for verification. If you were selected, both students and/or parents/guardians will need to upload documents to the student portal. To upload a document, please take the following steps:

  1. Log into PAWS as you normally would.
  2. Select 2022-2023 and Future Years in the Student Center.
  3. Select "Documents" from the menu at the top of the screen.
  4. Upload each requested document in the list by clicking on the upload button to the right of item.

In certain cases, your parent/guardian will be the owner or co-owner of a requested document. In order for the them to upload or electronically sign the requested documents, you will need to grant them access by granting FERPA consent in the student portal. To do this, you will need to update their profile in the student portal.

If the amount or type of aid changes, you will receive a Revised Financial Aid Notification. We cannot finalize your aid until the verification process is complete.

Completion of Required Paperwork or Online Processes

A student may be required to complete one or more online processes before a financial aid offer is officially considered accepted. Examples of such processes include the completion of a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for each loan offered to a student or parent, and the completion of the online student entrance-counseling interview for first-time loan borrowers at Frostburg State University.

All instructions for completing the requirements and accepting each form of student financial aid are posted on our website or are sent to the student via email. It is very important that every student check their FSU email account regularly for important announcements and updates. Information concerning the completion of student loan MPN's will be available from the Loan section of our website after June 1.
