Friends of Music At Frostburg

The Department of Music established Friends of Music at Frostburg (FMF) with the mission to support and promote a comprehensive music program within the context of Frostburg State University.  FMF provides support to more than ninety music majors and minors. In return, the FSU Department of Music provides cultural enrichment to the University, our local community and tri-state region by offering more than 150 musical performances throughout the year.

The music program at Frostburg is enhanced by the support of alumni, friends, and donors who are committed to investing in their alma mater with time and financial resources.

Each year a greater number of music students are in need of financial assistance. Among Frostburg’s students, 75% of undergraduates receive financial aid and 49% are first-generation college attendees. We owe our students the best education we can possibly provide.

FMF Gifts have supported the purchase of instruments, repairs, and other necessary equipment, as well as funding several music scholarships. They have also supported:

  • the Department’s production of W.A. Mozart’s Requiem
  • FSU Jazz Orchestra’s participation in the Shepherd University Jazz Festival with clinician Maria Schneider
  • tours around the tri-state region
  • new microphones

This year, FMF funding will help support concert tours of the Mid-Atlantic region by the Chamber Choir, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, and many of our small ensembles, in addition to guest clinicians and upgraded software.

FMF gifts will help the Department of Music recruit the next generation of aspiring musicians with special recruitment events in Southern and Northeastern Maryland.

We also ask your help in supporting specific Department of Music needs, including:

  • New sound system for Pealer Recital Hall ($9500)
  • Fox 240 Bassoon ($8000)
  • Di Zhao Bass Flute ($2700)
  • Bach Stradivarius Flugelhorn ($2400)
  • Yamaha YTS 480 Tenor Saxophone ($2400)

Please join with other alumni and music patrons and make an investment in our students by supporting the Friends of Music at Frostburg with a gift of $100, $500, or 1,000. Any amount you are able to contribute is appreciated and directly supports the education and experience of our students!
