Telephone Services for Employees

FSU offers a variety of phone services including voice mail to faculty and staff.

Note: Due to the new Help Desk Ticketing software, there is no longer a need to fill out a separate Telephone Service Request form for campus telephone requests. Please contact the IT Help Desk to request any campus telephone services.

If you are a new employee, your department will contact the IT Help Desk to request that your office phone be activated. They will receive notification by email when the setup of your telephone is complete.

For current employees in need of changes to their existing telephone service, your department will contact the IT Help Desk to request the services. They will receive notification by email when the setup of your telephone is complete.

Each office telephone line at FSU is set up with voicemail. The first time you call in to your voicemail you will need to set up your voicemail box. Dial x4030 and follow the instructions of the automated attendant. You will be required to record greetings and will have the option to set up other features.For help in resolving issues with your current telephone services please contact the IT Help Desk.

Telephone Service for Residence Hall Students

Frostburg State University has discontinued automatic dial tone service to residence hall rooms. Starting with the 2013 Fall Semester, land-line phone service in your room will be offered as an opt-in opportunity.

If you decide you would like to have a phone line in your room (one line per room), stop by the Residence Life Office (RLO) in Annapolis Hall and complete a Telephone Service Request form. RLO will then forward the request to the Office of Networking & Telecommunications for activation. Networking & Telecommunications will send notification to your FSU email address when activation has been completed.

There are 2 service options:

  1. Campus/Local calling only
    $14.00 per month basic charge + 12 cents per campus/local call

  2. Campus/Local/Long Distance calling
    $15.00 per month basic charge + 12 cents per call for campus/local calls and 8 cents per minute for long distance calls

You can elect to have voice mail added to either option at no additional charge.

Each month you will receive a detailed bill of charges from the Student Billing Office via your online PAWS account.

Cable Television

FSU provides one cable television connection in each residence hall room. To use the service, simply connect your TV to the wall jack with a standard coaxial cable (not provided).

Problems with your CATV connection can be reported to the IT Help Desk.

How do I program my TV to be able to see all the channels being offered?

The procedure for setting up your TV to recognize the new signals will be different based on the manufacturer and TV model. Please refer to your TV's manual for instructions. In general, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Use your remote to access your TV's menu.
  2. Find the setup options.
  3. Look for the option to automatically scan for all channels. Be sure the tuner is set to scan for Cable TV or Cable Input--not antenna or Air). If prompted, scan for both analog and digital channels.
  4. Run the scan.

The scan may take a few minutes as the TV looks for all available signals. Once it's done, your TV should now recognize all the content provided by Comcast to FSU that your TV is capable of receiving. You can then tune to the channels just like any other channel. Remember the specific procedure may vary by TV manufacturer and model and you may have to refer to your TV's instruction manual.
